WLSC Racing News Oct 4, 2012

Good morning, Sailors!

I hope to see you all at the lake this weekend for the 3rd Fall RaceCaptain’s meeting will be at 8:30 a.m. with the first horn at 9:00 a.m. and the A League starting at 9:06.  The Performance Cruisers will start at 9:12. If you wish to crew, but don’t have a ride, you must be at the dock for the Captain’s meeting in order to be assigned to a boat.

I still need a volunteer to do committee boat!

Pancake breakfast following the race!

Weather permitting, we will have a second race at 2:00 p.m. for the Performance Cruisers with Captain’s meeting at 1:30 p.m.

The 2nd Fall Race, held September 22, was an exciting one, with winds ranging from non-existent at the start to 15 knts near the end!  Blood was drawn as Skip Greene was hit by a flying boom approaching the finish line, narrowly defeating Kevin Donovan by 4 seconds!  The Performance Cruisers were equally exciting, with a close, tight race with less than a minute separating the top 4 finishers!  Thanks to Dave and Patti Gurysh for Committee Boat Duties!

Results from 2nd Fall Race (PHRF Corrected times, in seconds):

A-League: 1. Skip Greene, Knot for Long, 4437.7  2. Kevin Donovan, Virginia, 4441.5  3. Russ Veldman, Second Wind, 4631.4

Performance Cruisers: 1. Ed Lockett, Alabama Girl, 4788.7  2. Doug Rymer, Liberty, 4826.6  3. John Smith, Orion, 4827.1 4. Bill Smith, Changes in Attitude, 4837

In the afternoon race, assisted by winds of up to 20 knts, Marc Nachman and his jubilant crew on Whispering Eye had the best time of the day as well as their best time ever, sailing the 3 mark course in less than an hour.  The celebration went on well into the night!  Congratulations Marc!!!

Complete results for the season so far should be posted by tomorrow on our webpage:  and going to “Race Results”.

There’s still time to run the Middaugh Challenge!  This self-timed race from the tire-line at Lakeshore Marina, around the island and back is a fun thing to do when the wind is up!  Send your results to James Little: jameslittle@eastman.comKevin Donovan is the current leader.  Check out all the results and the instructions for sailing the Challenge by going to our webpage and selecting “Commodore’s Challenge”.   Deadline for this year’s Challenge is October 28!

Hope to see you all on Saturday morning!

Russ Veldman, Race Captain
