New Page – HowTo

There is a new tab on our website called “HowTo

I am always needing advise from our more experienced mechanics.  Please consider writing up procedures of jobs you think might help the next guy and submit them to the website and I will put them on the HowTo page.

Much thanks to John Middaugh who has started us off with a procedure on how to trouble shoot your alternator for wet cell starting batteries.

If the alternator is indeed bad, it can be repaired fairly easy.  Normally only the diodes go bad or the voltage regulator and these can be replaced.  I don’t know if they can be rewound, probably so , but at a cost.  A car alternator can be used but a marine alternator is built stronger, better bearings, better corrosion protection and etc.  A marine alternator operates under much more extreme conditions and for longer times.
