Summer Sailstice this Saturday

Ahoy Sailors!
I wish to apologize to everyone for putting an event on our calendar without providing much information about it.  A busy few weeks and the trip to Key Largo have put me behind…I’ll be catching up over the next several days, so expect to see a flurry of e-mails from me!
Please contact Gail if  1) you plan to eat hot dogs with us on Saturday evening and/or 2) want to join the raft-up on Saturday night and/or 3) you do not have a boat but wish to sail and/or 4) you have room on your boat for crew for any of these events.  Read on….
Summer Sailstice was founded in February 2001 by John Arndt of southern California, as the global, annual celebration of sailing held on the summer solstice, or on the closest Saturday to it.  This year the event is this Saturday, June 22.  The annual Summer Sailstice sailing event is free to all participants and has grown from 200 boats signed up in 2001 to almost 5,000 boats today. Since many sailors join in the fun on many different boats, the actual number of Summer Sailstice sailors participating is estimated at almost 19,000 annually.
Mr. Arndt gets many sailing-related companies to donate prizes (grand prize is a charter in the BVI’s!)  to be awarded to those who sign up and list their plans to participate.  In order to qualify, you must go to their website: www.summersailstice.com and sign up.  Once you are at the website, go to “Plans”, there you will be able to sign up and give information about the sailing activities you will be doing on the Summer Sailstice.  It asks for your  lattitude and longitude…ours at Lakeshore are: 36.312380 and -82.101540.  You may list your plans as “participating in the Watauga Lake Sailing Club Sailstice Celebration” or whatever else you’d like to put.
I have registered our event on the website as follows:
Saturday, June 22, 2013
9:00 a.m. 30′ plus Regatta (Skipper’s meeting at 8:15)
Pancake Breakfast following the race
3:00 p.m. Afternoon Club Sail towards the island and back…open to all members, prospective members, friends and family
6:00 p.m. Weenie Roast…Club will provide hotdogs, buns, condiments; please bring a dish to share and a beverage
7:30 p.m  Evening Club Sail.  The almost full moon will be rising at 8:05 p.m.
8:30 p.m. Raft-up.  Please bring snacks, beverages and breakfast items.  More details to follow!
I hope that you all be able to participate in some form or another!
