Summer Sailstice Raftup, Sat June 20

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do (there may be exceptions).

So throw off the bowlines (or cleat hitches, or eye splices, or however you secure the lines).
Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the lake winds in your sails.
    Explore.
    Dream.
    Discover.”

Events come, events go, but the Summer Solstice happens pretty predictably. As convenience would have it, it’s on a Saturday night this year, and Windward and her crew will again be “organizing” a raft up somewhere on the lake.

No guarantees, but if you register at http://www.summersailstice.com/event/watauga-lake-sailstice-raftup, you’re eligible to win prizes, friends and influence people.

Location and details will be dependent on weather, anticipated turnout and the whim of the host. We’ve never turned any unexpected arrivals away, but if you’re thinking of coming drop Jeff a note at windward@lizards.net to facilitate the whole planning thing.

This year’s event is opposite the Kids Sailing Camp (and yes, the Sunday is Fathers Day) and thus participation is uncertain, so no unicorn rides are planned and even the narwhal has been given the night off.  No qualifications other than a sailboat and good attitude are necessary for this family friendly raftup.  Dinner and breakfast are BYO, but since there’s usually a bit of boat-to-boat visiting you might bring a little pre or post dinner nosh and glug to share.  Weather permitting, we may venture ashore for a campfire later in the evening, but it’s sure to be enjoyable regardless.
