Fall Series Race 2016 #2 Results

Ahoy WLSC Sailors!

On a sunny afternoon 13 captains and crew turned out for the 2nd race of the Fall Series.  The race began in very light winds going to the OBS/dam mark.  NW winds of 6-8 kts fell in after 30 minutes into the race, as we chased the OBS mark floating west of its normal position.  Thanks to Clarke Lucas who retired early in the race and then did his best to retrieve the mark.  There was a bit of a log jam at the supine OBS mark, followed by variable winds on the leg to the ISL mark.  The patient racers were rewarded when rounding the mark with brisk NW winds most of the way to the finish line.

Congrats to James Little and his crew on the Holder 20 for capturing 1st place in the A-Racer class by 3.7 minutes corrected time!  Congrats also to Marc Nachman and his crew on the Olson 30 for earning 2nd place with the fastest elapsed time of 1:16:56, with a good run to the finish line along the north side.  And congrats to Tony Catoe and his crew on the Pearson 30 for taking 3rd place.  Wayne Catoe and his family crew flew the spinnaker on the Hunter 30 to make a solid run.

Congrats to Ed and Sue Lockett and crew on the Catalina 320 for capturing 1st place in PC-Class 2, winning by 9.3 minutes corrected time and with the fastest elapsed time of 1:31:48; an impressive win for Alabama Girl in light wind conditions for much of the race.  Congrats to Rob Remme and his family crew on the Beneteau 30 for earning 2nd place with another strong leg to the finish line, winning by 2 minutes corrected time over yours truly and his crew buddies on the Catalina 30 taking 3rd place.

And congrats to John Smith on his Precision 18, racing for the first time this year and taking 1st place in the PC-Class 3.  Also was good to see Bob and Dave Hebner out flying their new genneker on their Catalina 250.

Attached are the official 2016-fall-race-results-2 spreadsheet results for the race.

Thanks much to Russ Veldman and Gayle McPherson for the great job on Committee Boat duty, and to Marc Nachman and Tony Catoe for assisting with retrieving of marks.  And special thanks to Steve Brumit and Sue Lockett for preparing the tasty kielbasa, potatoes, and onions for the pot luck dinner after the race.

NEXT SERIES RACE: 2:00pm Saturday October 8, preceded by a Skipper’s meeting at 1:00pm.

Fair winds to you,

Dave Gurysh

WLSC Race Captain
