Fall Race #3 (Oct 8) Results

Ahoy WLSC Sailors!

Eleven (11) captains and their crew turned out for the 3rd race of the Fall Series on a dreary afternoon with a 50% forecast for showers and 10-15 kt winds. And sure enough, it did shower during the race and pretty hard at times. The race was at risk for being cancelled at the first mark due to the 60 minute time limit, but the Olson 30 and the Catalina 320 rounded the mark in time to continue the race. The NW forecasted winds finally filled in as we rounded the mountain mark and stayed strong on the last three legs to the finish line. So the race turned out to be an exercise in patience of light and variable winds on the first half and then a challenge of strong 10-20 kts winds on the last half.

Congrats to James Little and his crew on the Holder 20 for capturing their second 1st place in the A-Racer class in the Fall Series, winning by 3 minutes corrected time! Congrats also to Billy Becker and new crewmate on the Catalina 27 for their strong performance in earning 2nd place. And congrats to Marc Nachman and his crew on the Olson 30 for capturing 3rd place and the fastest elapsed time of 1:40:11.

Congrats to my crew on the Catalina 30 for capturing 1st place in PC-Class 2. Congrats to Ed and Sue Lockett and their crew on the Catalina 320 for taking 2nd place with another good performance. And congrats to Bill Smith and his crew on the Catalina 30 for earning 3rd place.

And congrats to Warren Lamb and his crew on the O’Day 27, racing for the first time this Fall and taking 1st place in the PC-Class 3 with a solid elapsed time of 2:05:59. And congrats to Bob and Dave Hebner on the Catalina 250 for taking 2nd place.

Attached are the 2016-fall-race-results-3 for the race.

Thanks much to Rob and Anita Remme for the great job on Committee Boat duty, and to the Remme’s, Marc Nachman and Tony Catoe for assisting with retrieving of marks. And special thanks to Commodore Anita and Sherri Hebner for providing the delicious BBQ ribs for the pot luck dinner after the race.

NEXT SERIES RACE: 1:00pm Saturday October 22, preceded by a Skipper’s meeting at 12:00pm.
There will also be a Fish Fry after the race and a slide show of “Cruising the Bahamas”, all put on by Bill and Adair Murdoch.

Fair winds to you,

Dave Gurysh
WLSC Race Captain
